Smyrna Rotary Club

Teasley Elementary School Career Day

Smyrna Rotary has been quite involved with Teasley Elementary School in Smyrna for seven or eight years now. And for that, it has to thank Vinings Rotary’s always dynamic Joanne Roblee, the school’s immediate past principal and a recent Past President of Vinings Rotary.

Rotarians have done light landscaping at Teasley. They’ve also participated in Read Across American Day (Dr. Seuss Day) and on several occasions, participated in Career Day.

In mid-October, Rotarians were honored to participate again, speaking about law, education, software and more to 15 classes of children, ranging from Kindergarten to 5th Grade. The children were very inquisitive and equally exuberant. For the Rotarians, it is always a great opportunity to see firsthand how great our schools really are.

Smyrna Rotary’s past President Narayan Sengupta, who spoke about programming software, says, “I appreciated all the politeness, the hand-raising, the great questions and everything about them. They are Smyrna’s future!”

Rotarian Cherry Gipson, past principal of the Cobb Adult Education Center, adds, “It is important for us to nourish their enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. As Mary McLeod Bethune said, ‘Our children must never lose their zeal for building a better world.’”

Says Principal Leslie Mansfield: “Career Day at Teasley Elementary is always a great day thanks to the amazing support we get from our community partners, such as Smyrna Rotary. Our students are inspired to see where their learning can take them in the future. We are so grateful for your support!!!”

Corinna Oliver, Professional School Counselor, Grades 3-5, writes:

At Teasley Elementary School we are very thankful for the Smyrna Rotary club. The club has been a tremendous supporter and partner of our school for many years. During October, the club helped with our annual career day and recruited club members to speak to our students. The speakers spoke to a variety of classes and spent lots of combined hours preparing presentations and then answering questions for our students. With their help, we were able to expose our students to many careers that were new to many of them. This exposure helps students learn about a variety of careers and make plans for their future. We were fortunate to have so many interesting careers represented. The speakers were well prepared, professional and very patient. We are extremely indebted to the Smyrna Rotary Club for all they do for Teasley Elementary School and our community.

Smyrna Rotary is always looking for the community's business and service leaders. For more information about the club or membership, please email f12@nfiweb.com.
