Smyrna Rotary Has another Banner Year

Jan. 28, 2017 - Smyrna Rotary Club has had another banner year. Literally! On hand on January 27, 2017 to present the awards was Rotary District 6900 immediate Past District Governor Bob Hagan. For 2015-2016, the Club was recognized with three awards related to its foundation giving. Past President Scott Auer says that “the awards were for 1) Per Capita Giving, 2) Every Rotarian Every Year and 3) 100% Sustaining Member Club.” Auer adds that “the Club has a long tradition of support of the Foundation, having three banners per year awarded for seven consecutive years.” In per capita giving, Smyrna Rotary Club has been #1 in the world (out of 33,000+ Rotary Clubs), been in the top 12 globally five times and the seven times been the #1 club of the 70+ clubs in Rotary District 6900. The Club includes a Level 2 Major Donor and an Arch Klumph Society member, eight Major Donors, and several PHS members. The entire Club has Paul Harris pins, and in 2015, every member in the Club had two Paul Harris awards, the first club to do so in District 6900. For 2015-2016, the Club was #3 in District 6900 in per capita giving.

Notes Club President Don Parkerson, “Smyrna Rotary has a long tradition of service above self. This year, our club has led projects to directly help flood victims in Louisiana and North Carolina, as well as putting boots on the ground in India to fight polio. Smyrna Rotary will continue to seek out ways to make our world a better place.”

Since its founding in December 1963, Smyrna Rotary has also been the source of three District Governors including Gardner Potter, Lee Howard and Roy Strickland.

Heading up the club’s Foundation Giving has been Rotary District 6900 Past District Governor (2009-2010) and two times Club President Roy Strickland. Strickland says "Smyrna Rotarians are amazingly kind and generous business and community leaders that help make possible the good works of Rotary."

Last year the Club was one of only a handful in District 6900 to win the President’s Award, the Governor's Award and the Zone PR Award.

Smyrna Rotary is always looking for the community's business and service leaders. For more information about the club or membership, please email f12@nfiweb.com.
